May Day Student Collaboration: Los Angeles 2011
This Service Learning demonstration generated from a class project that drew on Yosso's, (2005) concept of counter-narratives to push back against the negative portrayal of immigrant families and communities. Students told their own stories using the original "Caution" sign near the San Diego/ Tijuana Border. They took it upon themselves to use their signs to participate in The May Day March in Los Angeles in 2011 and engaged in dialogue with the public who asked them about their signs (Garcia, 2012)
